kayaking with kids on the Chicago River

Whenever we have friends visit in the warmer months, it’s always fun to do the usual Summer sightseeing: museums, Michigan Avenue shopping, strolling along the Riverwalk to the winery, biking south along the lake past the planetarium, toward Soldier Field, fireworks at Navy Pier, fun dining in the West Loop & Fulton Market, and the evening architectural boat tour. But, a fun kid friendly ((for anyone ages 4 & older)) way to see the city, is to drop in at any one of the city’s many Kayak rental spots & grab yourselves a Kayak. There are dozens of guided tours available, but the semi-experienced kayakers can just rent a kayak & adventure along the river on their own! (Be prepared to watch a quick safety video & wear a well worn life vest, unless you have your own). We like to go in the later afternoon, avoiding the hottest time of day. It’s really relaxed, with music & a few spots to grab a drink near the river once you’re done.

Here is a little snippet of the trip we just took with two young kiddos…

Best, N+K
